GW can influence sustainability through its procurement practices

GW has taken steps to investigate and benchmark procurement practices. As part of its Ecosystem Plan, GW commits to sourcing products that reduce its impact on biodiversity, climate and water, and will start by drafting sustainable procurement policies for three major purchase categories (e.g. paper, electronics, water, etc.) by 2017.

Sustainable Procurement Rotational Intern

GW graduate students have worked cross-functionally to draft sustainable procurement policy recommendations for the university. The most recent sustainable procurement intern created a balanced scorecard to help make better paper purchasing decisions.

Procurement Research and Benchmarking

Since 2010 several teams of students have worked to provide reserach and benchmarking on sustainable procurement practices. These recommendations contribute to the current work underway with drafting a sustainable procurement policy.

Four GW students were hired to benchmark GW's procurement practices with other universities and corporations. Recommendations were presented to the Office of Sustainability and the finance division.
