Micromobility on Campus

GW offers discounts on several micromobility options for students, faculty, and staff to expand sustainable, affordable transportation around the DMV area. These discounts come with a shared responsibility to ride safely and respect pedestrians on and around campus.

When You’re on the Move:

  • Obey all traffic laws.
  • Ride with traffic, never against it.
  • Always yield to pedestrians.
  • Follow all signs and signals.
  • Never ride impaired; drinking, drugs, and riding don’t mix.
  • No sidewalk riding in the Central Business District.
  • No double riding; only one rider allowed per device.

  • Stay visible; wear bright colors.
  • Ride on the right side.
  • Look, signal, and look again.
  • Don’t wear earphones.
  • Watch for obstacles.
  • Always ride lawfully and responsibly.
  • Park and lock all devices to bike racks or within designated corrals. Never block sidewalks, ramps, or building entrances.

Lime Discount

As of October 2026, GW has entered into a first-of-its-kind partnership with Lime to provide a 60% discount on all pay-as-you-go rides for students, staff, and faculty. E-bikes and e-scooters are an important car alternative for the GW community. With this discount, all GW affiliates can more easily and affordably take advantage of shared micromobility devices instead of owning, storing, and charging their own.

This partnership was also created to provide a better experience for pedestrians and other micromobility riders on and around GW’s campus. While personally-owned e-micromobility devices can be modified to travel 60 mph or faster, the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) requires shared micromobility companies to cap device speeds at 10 mph for e-scooters and 18 mph for e-bikes. Utilizing Lime bikes and scooters instead of privately-owned devices also reduces the risk of micromobility battery fires in GW buildings.

How to get the GW affiliate discount

Enrollment will be automatic for any individual who creates a new Lime account with an official GW email address, or who changes the primary email on an existing Lime account to a GW-affiliated email address. Lime will automatically apply a 60% discount for GW affiliates (including students, staff, and faculty) taking eligible rides starting or ending in Washington, D.C.

If you experience any issues activating the discount in your account, please contact [email protected].

Keeping our community safe

As part of GW's partnership with Lime, a multichannel safety campaign will be launched to promote safe, responsible riding and parking, educate GW affiliates about the fire risks of personally-owned devices, and provide guidance on storing and charging personal devices. As part of this campaign, GW and Lime will be holding First Ride Academies, distributing free helmets, and integrating messaging about safety into the Lime app, social media, and other campus communications channels and events. Be sure to subscribe to the Sustainable GW newsletter to receive the latest information about upcoming events and giveaways.

Reporting an issue or concern

Need to report a specific issue with any shared e-bike or e-scooter? Use DC's official 311 channel, available 24/7, to make a report. DC government will transmit the ticket to the appropriate micromobility company, who will be obligated to respond according to their operating agreements with DDOT.

Have high-level feedback to share about the partnership? Help shape long-term micromobility programs and safety around our campus by sending feedback to [email protected].
