Green Move Out
Green Move-Out makes the residence hall move-out process more environmentally and community friendly through a multifaceted donation drive. During the Spring Semester move-out, students can donate items such as bedding and linens, non-perishable food, clothing, and shoes into boxes in residence hall lobbies labeled with a Green Move Out sticker. These items are then bagged by volunteers and delivered to several local charity partners. Every year, Green Move Out diverts over 30,000 pounds of reusable goods from landfills.
This initiative is only made possible through the support of an unprecedented partnership of students, staff, and faculty volunteers. You can make a difference by signing up today to support Green Move Out 2025 as a volunteer. Volunteers with Green Move Out may be eligible to stay in their residence halls as late as May 20 at 11:59PM. To qualify for extended housing through Green Move Out, volunteers must complete a minimum of three shifts, including one shift on or after Wednesday, May 14. Volunteers should plan to vacate their Spring Semester housing within 24 hours of the end of their last shift, or by 11:59pm on May 20 (May 19 for Michell, FSK, and Guthridge residents as those buildings will close after that day for renovations), whichever comes first. Failure to attend a Green Move Out shift may result in a fine of $150, which will be placed on your student account. As an added bonus, volunteers can also bring one item home with them from each shift!
